The Pi Kappa Alpha Fall 2005 Rush Calendar - Coming Soon

Vision, Mission, Creed

Vision:
Pi Kappa Alpha will set the standard of integrity, intellect, and achievement for our members, host institutions, and the communities in which we live.

Mission:
Pi Kappa Alpha is dedicated to developing men of integrity, intellect, and high moral character and to fostering a truly lifelong fraternal experience.

To fulfill this mission, Pi Kappa Alpha will:
• Encourage all our members to live the values taught in our ritual.
• Provide innovative services and programs designed to enrich the lives of our undergraduates, alumni, and communities.
• Create opportunities for our undergraduate and alumni members to participate in the life of Pi Kappa Alpha on a daily basis.
• Promote and foster a spirit of pride, loyalty, inclusion and respect for Pi Kappa Alpha and its rich history.
• Empower our undergraduate and alumni members to help shape Pi Kappa Alpha’s future by being informed ambassadors and involved advocates.
• Encourage our undergraduate and alumni members to take an active role in advancing Pi Kappa Alpha’s interest by volunteering their time and by contributing to the Fraternity’s annual giving campaign.
• Communicate effectively and efficiently with our alumni, students and host intuitions through various channels on a continuous basis.
• Value academic achievement and practice academic integrity.
• Establish positive and lasting relationships with our host institutions, alumni and communities.
• Encourage our members to be of strong mind and body.

Creed:
We believe in the importance of virtue and commit to living the values of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. We recognize that truth is the foundation of all lasting association, and we will seek wisdom and knowledge while serving others in modesty and dignity.
Recalling that Pi Kappa Alpha is a lifelong commitment, I therefore reaffirm to live my life with honor and courage seeking the inherent worth in each person I meet; to accept all brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha in love and friendship; and to serve my faith, my family, my community, my alma mater, and my fraternity.

Only then, by living these virtues, will we realize our fullest potential.

Pi Kappa Alpha Preamble
Sunday evening March 1, 1868. University of Virginia

"For the establishment of friendship on a firmer and more lasting basis,
for the promotion of brotherly love and kind feeling;
for the mutual benefit and advancement of the interests of those
with whom we sympathize and deem worthy of our regard;
we have resolved to form a fraternity,
believing that thus we can most successfully accomplish our object."

About Beta Delta Chapter
The Beta Delta Chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity was founded: May 22, 1915 at the University of New Mexico. Pi Kappa Alpha, is the first and oldest national Fraternity in the State of New Mexico.

Pike Programs and Activities:

Membership Development,
Our chapter is dedicated to helping its members becoming more successful. Everything from the Internet to proper etiquette, dressing for success, how to write a resume, and leadership are just a few topics of workshops held regularly at Pi Kappa Alpha.

Intramural Sports,
Pike is known for it's athletic prowess amongst the Greek system. Pike is the current "Popejoy Cup" UNM Intramural Sports Champions

Registered Social Events,
Pike is known for and has been voted upon by fellow UNM students as having the best parties on campus. Pi Kappa Alpha has several registered theme social functions a semester. Pi Kappa Alpha holds the largest Party on Campus "Pike's Peak." Pike's social events are a good way to have fun and meet people after working hard in school.

Homecoming,
Pi Kappa Alpha participates every year in the annual homecoming festivities. Pike competes in the Cherry Silver Competition and organizes one of the largest tailgate parties. Each year Pi Kappa Alpha rolls out its old time Fire Truck and has its traditional Pig Roasting feast.

Greek Week,
Fraternities and Sororities work together as a charity event to benefit some local charitable non-profit organization or cause. Also, it is a chance to compete against the other Fraternities in such events as athletics, skits, and more. Pike has won the Greek Cup seven out of the last ten years.

Community Service,
Pike is involved in helping local politics and providing services for groups in need (i.e. Carrie Tingley Hospital, Casa Esperanza, homeless shelters, Salvation Army Giving Tree, etc.). The Fraternity is also involved in the Adopt-A-Highway program (I-40 east of the Big I). Pike feels that participating in community service is a good way to build leadership and good character.

Scholarship,
Members of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity must maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.25 on a 4.0 scale, and be enrolled in at least 9 hours of classes. Many of our members have donated old tests to our test file to help brothers with test preparation for many of the subjects offered at UNM. Study exchanges with Sororities and study hours are also very common practices at the Pike house. Thanks to Alumni contributions some scholarships are awarded.

Alumni Relations,
Pike also has a large Alumni Association, which is helpful for jobs and/or internships following graduation or while attending school.

Campus Involvement,
Members of Pike are involved in many other groups and activities on campus such as homecoming court, ASUNM Senate, athletics, business clubs, professional societies, campus political groups, music and theatrical groups, etc.
